Animals with Attitude

Auckland's Animal Behaviour Clinic

When you need a solution to a serious behaviour problem

Animals with Attitude is run by Dr Elsa Flint one of the most qualified Animal Behaviour experts in New Zealand.

I am a veterinarian in small animal practice in  Auckland and also run Animals with Attitude behaviour clinic which takes referral behaviour cases from the Auckland area and beyond. I entered the field of behavioural medicine out of a genuine concern that the psychological needs of pets were not being properly attended to. Pets DO suffer from mental health problems but this is often not recognised. Pets can suffer from anxiety disorders which manifest in unwanted behaviours. Sadly this is often not recognised and is treated inappropriately as a training issue.

It is also important to realise that some unwanted behaviours may be related to physical problems such as pain from arthritis or dental disease leading to increased irritability. Urinary tract or bowel infections may be an underlying cause of house soiling.

AS A QUALIFIED AND EXPERIENCED VETERINARIAN I AM ABLE TO ASSESS YOUR PET'S MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH AND IDENTIFY /RULE OUT ANY CORRELATIONS.

Problem behaviours that I commonly deal with in dogs include aggression (both human and dog directed) obsessive compulsive disorder, separation anxiety and excessive barking.

Problem behaviours in cats include obsessive compulsive disorders (e.g. over grooming) separation anxiety, dementia, aggression, destructive behaviours and urine spraying /house soiling.

I have an MSc (hons) in Behavioural Zoology, Bachelor of Veterinary Science (1991), Membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in animal behaviour and have recently completed a PhD in Veterinary Science (Behaviour).

I lecture in Animal behaviour at a training school for Veterinary technicians and I am a guest lecturer at Massey University in the field of animal behaviour.

I am co-author of six books on animal care and behaviour and have published several scientific papers.
